Center for Research on Integrative Medicine in the Military (CRIMM)

The Samueli Institute is rapidly becoming one of the best-known research organizations in the country for the management of research on complementary and integrative medicine for military applications.  As the Institute’s Military Medicine Research program has grown, the Institute has been involved in various military and veterans health care systems venues for the investigation of healing systems, optimal function, wellness, and integrative and complementary medicine practices. The Department of Defense (DoD) and the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) operate the largest health care organizations in the United States. These systems serve a cross-section of populations, have a pragmatic focus on improving effective clinical delivery and outcomes and provide resources and “living laboratories” for scientific research.

The Samueli Institute has a highly successful military medical research program focusing in the areas of complementary, alternative and integrative medicine. Programs are funded through Congressional appropriations for joint research among the Institute and various military and civilian entities. The current research portfolio includes:
