Joan Walter, JD, is Samueli Institute’s Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Military Medical Research. She received her law degree from Rutgers University and a B.S., Physician's Assistant, from Touro College/SUNY-Stony Brook. Before joining Samueli Institute, Ms. Walter’s work experience included positions held at both civilian and military facilities. She has taken a diverse career path of discovery and inquiry into clinical practice and scientific research in the Neurosciences; law and business development; and has acquired skills in translating research initiatives into business objectives in the private sector. Most recently, Ms. Walter worked for the Henry Jackson Foundation as the Scientific Director and Site Program Manager for the Comprehensive Neuroscience Program and as the Assistant Director for Clinical Services for the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Program.
