Chronic Pain Breakthrough Collaborative
Now Enrolling
Chronic pain is a national health problem, affecting more people than those with heart disease, cancer, and diabetes combined. Almost half of our nation’s adults live with chronic pain. The cost of chronic pain to our society, including health care and lost productivity costs, adds up to nearly $2,000 per year for every man, woman, and child in the United States.
Medications may be a critical component of managing diseases and alleviating painful conditions, however, prescription drug abuse is the nation’s fastest growing drug problem. Use of opioids, steroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and other analgesics has significantly increased in recent years with opioid prescriptions alone increasing by 60% from 2000 to 2010.

CHANGE THAT MATTERS
Truly innovative pain clinics across the nation are working to build integrative practices that help patients manage chronic pain through seamless access to drugless therapies and self-care.
Samueli Institute is convening a select number of clinics to join its next Chronic Pain Breakthrough Collaborative. Using methodology advanced by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Samueli Institute’s Chronic Pain Breakthrough Collaborative is a systematic approach to health care quality improvement.
