CHOATE NAMED ‘RESEARCHER OF THE YEAR’
BY AMERICAN CHIROPRACTIC ASSOCIATION
Arlington, Va. – Christine Goertz Choate, DC, PhD, was recently honored by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) with its George B. McClelland Researcher of the Year Award. She was recognized for excellence and achievement in research that expands the body of knowledge in chiropractic.
“Dr. Choate has worked tirelessly for the chiropractic profession. She has helped the chiropractic profession bridge the gap between science, professional advocacy and the activities associated with everyday chiropractic practice,” said ACA President Richard G. Brassard, DC.
For many years Dr. Choate has been actively engaged in conducting and facilitating chiropractic research, but in more recent years she has served as a consultant on many significant projects that have helped to expand patient access to chiropractic care, Dr. Brassard noted.
In addition to her work with the chiropractic profession, Dr. Choate’s other research interests have focused on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatments for cardiovascular disease and pain, the potential impact of belief systems on treatment outcomes, and quality of care issues.
She is currently the Deputy Director of the Samueli Institute, an Alexandria, Va., non-profit organization that conducts and supports health care research in complementary therapies and traditional medicines. Before joining the Institute, Dr. Choate was a Program Officer at the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), National Institutes of Health (NIH), managing a portfolio focused on musculoskeletal disease, pain, alcohol/addiction, and health services research.
Dr. Choate received her Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minneapolis, Minn., and her doctorate in Health Services Research, Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. She has formerly served as chairwoman of the Chiropractic Health Section of the American Public Health Association, chair of the Minnesota Chiropractic Association’s Legislative and National Health Policy committees, and as a provider-alternate to the Minnesota Health Care Commission.
The 2006 George B. McClelland Researcher of the Year Award was presented during the ACA’s 43rd Annual Business Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz. ACA named its Researcher of the Year Award in honor of Dr. McClelland because of his belief in the importance of research for the future of the chiropractic profession and his commitment to seeing that research is conducted.
The ACA, based in Arlington, Va., is the largest chiropractic organization in the country. The ACA provides lobbying, public relations, professional and educational opportunities for doctors of chiropractic, funds research regarding chiropractic and health issues, and offers leadership for the advancement of the profession.
