This meeting was conducted by the International Society of Life Information Science [ISLIS], and was co-sponsored by the Japan Science and Technology Corporation [JST] and the Samueli Institute. Its purpose was to provide a forum for submitted oral and poster presentations and invited lectures that explored aspects of physical and physiological approaches to exceptional human functions in qigong, yoga, zen and healing, preventive medicine, complementary and alternative medicine, parapsychological phenomena, altered states of consciousness and special mental activities. The audience consisted of basic and clinical research scientists, and health providers. Conference proceedings with papers either in Japanese or English were published in the Journal of ISLIS.

Conference Proceedings were published in the September 2002 issue of the Journal of ISLIS, and as a Samueli Institute Proceedings.
