Bonnie Sakallaris, PhD, RN, is Samueli Institute's Vice President for Optimal Healing Environments. Prior to coming to the Institute in April 2011, Bonnie was the Vice President for Outcomes Management at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. Her extensive clinical and administrative experience includes expertise in critical care nursing, data analysis and benchmarking and process improvement. Dr. Sakallaris has served as an educator, clinical specialist and division director. She has experience as a chief nursing officer in another major health system, and as a clinical consultant for APACHE Medical Systems.

Dr. Sakallaris has published extensively and presented nationally and internationally on clinical topics related to critical care, cardiovascular care and trauma resuscitation, as well as outcomes management, data analysis and professional mentoring. She received undergraduate degrees from Northeastern University and Boston University and holds a graduate degree in nursing from the Catholic University of America and her PhD from George Mason University.
